Ayurveda/Oil pulling

Dear Dr. Dehal,

I read today your recent answer concerning the practice of oil pulling (swishing sesame oil in the mouth). Information about doing this a minimum of 15 minutes is very widely spread on the internet and there is an enormous amount of people doing it this way. Some Indian newspapers even did a sort of follow-up/study of people who did this for a long period of time. In light of your answer, I am concerned about the ill effects that may result for people from oil pulling for too long a time. I have also been doing this practice for several months. Would it be worthwhile to post some comments on the websites advocating oil pulling to mention that it should not be practiced for more than a minute at first, and perhaps mention the ill effects that might result from doing so longer?

Thank you and have a nice evening,

Dear Aaron,
i am very sorry for the delay in answering.

There is no hard and fast rule for the timing for this procedure.
Actually in your classics it is mentioned that oil pulling is done till
The filling of oro-pharyngeal secretion upto throat and
Secretion from eyes and nose.
So for this the time required is only few minutes.
If this is done for excessive longer duration then there are chances of following symptoms...
Ulceration of oral cavity.
Dryness of buccal cavity
Excessive thirst
Sense of exhaustion or tiredness.
