BDSM/relationship between my Sir and I
Expert: arani_CsA - 5/23/2008
QuestionQUESTION: Were can I find out the Ancient history of BDSM? I have met someone 2 years ago who introduced me to the lifestyle, in a nut shell, I have found he is my soul mate, my Sir in previous lives we have shared. (I know this to be rue , because he told me of the very dreams I was having,in this lifestyle centuries ago) i never told anyone about my fantasies, but he knew them. he trained me as a Mistress, we are getting a stable together for business. My question relies on the old ways of having a stable and the way it should be run, bringing in slaves and how a Mistress should have her role and the role of the Sir. I have dream s of how it was done in history, and the way I feel my Sir should be honored,I really want to know if my perception from my visions are real. I tried to research it on-line but cant find what I am looking for. If you can help me, I would really love that. Thank You,
Mistress Angellica
ANSWER: Hello...
Thanks for coming to me with your question. I hope that I can help you find the answers you are looking for.
The modern lifestyle we now call BDSM can trace its roots to the gay leather culture, which was developed by men returning home from military service in World War II. (You may have heard the term "Old Guard," which is commonly used to describe these people.) This movement was characterized by strict formality and fixed roles, and there was no room for women or heterosexual men. This gradually evolved into what we know of today as BDSM. (See
http://www.evilmonk.org/A/oldguard.cfm for more information.)
Historians have found evidence of practices resembling modern sado-masochism dating as far back as the 9th century BC. In ancient Sparta, a religious cult practiced ritual flagellation on a regular basis. The "Kama Sutra" describes four different kinds of hitting during lovemaking, and is generally considered to be the first written resource for sadomasochistic activities and safety rules. Some feel that the medieval tradition of courtly love, with all of its slavish devotion, to be a precursor for BDSM. And we've all heard of the Marquis de Sade.
There have been many different societies through history who practiced institutionalized slavery. However, this was not done necessarily for the pleasure of either party involved, but more for economic reasons. The ancient Romans, Greeks, Vikings, Hebrews, Ottomans, native Americans, and many others can be included here. These societies served as a part of the inspiration for the Gor novels written by John Norman, primarily in the 1960s and 70s.

QUESTION: Are the links you sent me also related to the mid evil days of kings and queens and magick. Those are the days I am interested in. Those are the time era that my dreams take me back to. Is that knowledge possible, if not I understand, i just want to get a better perspective on my spiritual past.
AnswerHello...
I have studied medieval times quite a bit, in my vanilla life. From what I have read, slavery such as you speak of did not exist at that time. The lifestyle, as we know it now, did not exist prior to the 1940s or 50s.
However, the BDSM lifestyle is rich in role play, and I would encourage you to pursue that route if this is what interests you.
