BDSM/Marking of a sub/slave

Question
I have heard from a couple of different people a couple of different guidelines or versions of marking a sub/slave.  In one version it must only be intended to be an ownership mark.  In another it must be a mark similar to the owners.  In yet another I have been told that for overseas play there must be a name and/or serial number for it to be valid.  I was wondering of you could clarify for me.

                             Thank you,

Answer
Marking of a slave can be anything the Dominant chooses, although most will allow for input from their property as well. There is no standard when it comes to marking a slave. It does NOT have to be similar to their Owners, as most often their Owners may not even have a mark in the first place.

As far as serial numbers, and bar codes, they can be found at slaveregister.com, and allow for a sub/slave, whether owned or not to register themselves, and receive both a serial number, as well as barcodes. There is also a certificate of Ownership. A profile is kept on slave register as well, so that others may know that the slave or sub is either owned, in service, or actively seeking. It is a good site, and many have used the barcode, and serial numbers as ownership marks for Their property.

As far as overseas play is concerned, I have heard nothing that says a serial number and name MUST be present or they can't play.

I hope this helps. If you need further assistance, or clarification, please feel free to contact Me again.
