BDSM/Looking for a type of prop

Question
I'm fairly new to BDSM, and so far my partner and I have been moving pretty slowly, which is good, overall.  However, I've been getting a little bored with spanking.  I was wondering if you knew of a kind of prop--I'm not sure what the appropriate term would be (flogger?  whip?) since I don't know what I'm looking for--that stings or smarts rather than deals heavy blows or covers a lot of surface area.  I enjoy pain, but I don't want to feel like I'm getting beat up.  Leaving marks is okay.
Any recommendations would be appreciated.  Thank you!

Answer
Pretty much the prevailing rule here is light and thin tipped for the maximum stinginess. You might get good results from a thin tipped whip: http://www.extremerestraints.com/whips_68/flicker-whip_269.html , a rattan cane: http://www.extremerestraints.com/canes_70/natural-rattan-cane_1380.html or a really simple and affordable rubber flogger: http://www.extremerestraints.com/floggers-and-whips_159/short-rubber-whips_374.h...
Big cool looking heavy floggers will give you lots of thud, little impact, and little stinginess, which is great for you because those also tend to be more expensive. If you've looking at leather, go with something small with pointier ends, like this: http://www.extremerestraints.com/floggers-and-whips_159/strict-leather-beginner-...
You can also experiment with things you have around the house and see how different things feel before investing in some new BDSM gear.

If it involves gear I can answer it. Whether you're talking basic sex toys, restraints(leather, steel, etc....), electrosex, fucking machines, butt plugs, or any other kinky practice that involves gear. I can answer it.
