My girlfriend likes to be dominated and is into pain. I now lie on the other side of the country and am finding it difficult to come up with ideas about the what to do. I've tried the typical phone sex, and public play but thats about it. any ideas?

Well, having dealt with distance at times myself I have found out that chat on line helps a lot, but if it is enhance by a video web cam. You can have audio and video and give commands to her from a remote location and still enjoy the show she gives.
I know it is not the same as being in person and delivering the punishment yourself. But is a good form of discipline and control, with a modern, yet effective twist, where you two still would have a good time trying it.
Try telling her what to wear for next session and you can verify she does.  Otherwise you would have to set up creative punishment. I know she could 'cheat' on the level and intensity of what she could do to herself, but if you consider she is faking it or not being compliant enough , then you can tell her you are keeping a tally of her demerits, which you will take out  her hide later <smile>.
If you do not have access to Internet, then written errands with some type of proof (pics from digital or phone cam) could be used instead.
