Question
I just bought my son a 1985 318i and am having dificulty finding a replacement seat, drivers side the springs in the bottom are weak and it seems that it is twisted towards the middle of the car. any ideas? I thought of pulling the seat and trying to weld a brace or two to it, but that probably won't work. any good junkyards that you know of (I'm in westchester county , NY) that deal in older BMW's? Thanks, Chris

Answer
Chris,
This is a common problem with BMW's, they regularly get driven longer than most cars, so there is a demand for replacement seats.
Unfortunately I do not know of any BMW specialty scrap yards in NY.  A Google search didn't turn up anything.

There is a Local (to me) BMW ONLY scrap yard that I frequent quite often.  He has a website:

  www.strictly-german.com

I dont know if he still uses his sight for ordering, or how it works, but I know he ships parts all over the place, and he always has a supply of seats.  Maybe he'll have a good deal on a seat that he can ship to you.

 Hope this helps,
 Josh

Expertise

I can answer questions related to the BMW e30. These are the cars produced from 1984-1991 (1992 for convertable) in the United states. I am more fluent with the six cylinder models, although few things changed for the 4 cylinder cars. I know most of the problematic areas of these cars, and have found ways to fix them.

Experience

I have owned six different E30's over the last 10 years. I do all my own work, and know about ever nut and bolt on these cars.
