About Josh Fields Expertise I can answer questions related to the BMW e30. These are the cars produced from 1984-1991 (1992 for convertable) in the United states. I am more fluent with the six cylinder models, although few things changed for the 4 cylinder cars. I know most of the problematic areas of these cars, and have found ways to fix them.
Experience I have owned six different E30's over the last 10 years. I do all my own work, and know about ever nut and bolt on these cars.
Question Hi, i need help, i've put on (2) new oil filters (2), and the pressure keeps blowing the oil filter seal making a big mess, as soon as i give it throttle, i can see the filter edge lifting ! The problem started during a cold snap and i haven't been able to figure it out.
Thanks if you can direct me in the right direction.
Answer Mitch,
I'm not sure on this one, and I'm not really familiar with that engine either. Something is causing too much oil pressure, and it's finding the weak spot to blow out. Make sure that the stud that holds the filter on is screwed all the way into the block. Other than that you might have a blockage in an oil gallery causing pressure to build behind it.
Good luck,
Josh
