Question
Josh, I have a 94 325is auto with 71,000 miles. I have a surging at highway speeds. As you would press the accelerator pedal down to make a gradual pass or merge into traffic with out cicking the auto transmission down you get a surge, hesitaion on rpms .About 5 to 6 times the car will rev a extra 800 t0 1,000 rpms than procede to accelerate .If you press hard it will kick down and accelerate with no hesitaion. All bmw mechanics have not been able to find the problem. No codes are present at all. Air flow sensor has been replaced, new plugs, fuel injetors rebuilt. Help Jimbo

Answer
Jim,
I wish I could help, but I only work on the older 1984-1991 bmw's.  This sounds like it could be the transmission slipping a little before it kicks down, this would cause the rpms to rise, and the car not go anywhere.

there is likely someone on there in the E36 forum that could help you.

 Good luck,

Expertise

I can answer questions related to the BMW e30. These are the cars produced from 1984-1991 (1992 for convertable) in the United states. I am more fluent with the six cylinder models, although few things changed for the 4 cylinder cars. I know most of the problematic areas of these cars, and have found ways to fix them.

Experience

I have owned six different E30's over the last 10 years. I do all my own work, and know about ever nut and bolt on these cars.
