Question
The problem is that when you lock the doors, the trunk unlocks. You then have to lock the trunk manually with the keys. I don't understand why the trunk doesn't lock with the doors like most cars.

Answer
Harry,
This is probably a simple fix.  There are electric servo's on each door/trunk.  When you lock one, the computer sends a signal to these servo's to lock them all electronically.  Apparently the Trunk's servo is malfuntioning.  Just open the trunk and pull back the panel/carpeting covering where the lock would be.  There should be a little box in there that has wires running out of it... this will be the box that is malfunctioning.  Test it and/or replace it.
 Hope this helps,
 Josh

Expertise

I can answer questions related to the BMW e30. These are the cars produced from 1984-1991 (1992 for convertable) in the United states. I am more fluent with the six cylinder models, although few things changed for the 4 cylinder cars. I know most of the problematic areas of these cars, and have found ways to fix them.

Experience

I have owned six different E30's over the last 10 years. I do all my own work, and know about ever nut and bolt on these cars.
