my 99 e36 m3 has a power loss and the check engine light is on both came at once.please help can not afford dealer.thank you

please give me more information. please describe the loss of power like just runs poorly or won't rev past a certain rpm or possibly feels like cylinders may not be firing so you have a very rough idle. my best guess for now would either be fouled spark plugs or possibly a camshaft sensor. try taking the car to a parts store such as auto zone or advanced auto parts and they should be able to read the stored fault codes. write those down and let me know. if not pay the dealer .5 hour labor to diag and i can give you instructions on how to change the part. good luck.
