BMW/BMW Wiper Problem

Question
Hi

The windscreen wipers on my 1998 E36 318i park in the upright position, they work as usual, but always rest in the upright position. I've changed the wiper module but this hasn't helped.

What should I try next? I'm not sure if changing the motor will help, as the current motor does the job (i.e. moves the wipers in the normal wiping pattern).

Any suggestions would be welcome.

Many thanks,

Andy Green

Answer
Andy,
The wiper park position sensor in that car is in the motor and it sounds like you are 180 degrees out of sync. The motor makes a continuous circle rather than stops and reverses. It only looks for the park sensor as a reference. If you take the cowl apart enough to see the motor you will see a linkage rod approx 2 inches long. Being careful not to turn the motor loosen the 13mm nut on the motor shaft side of the linkage arm and flip to the oppisite side (you will be moving the wipers with it until they are in the proper parked position) If this doesn't do it it is time for a new motor. Good luck.
