Absolutely no offense taken - I was simply explaining why the automatic and the desired switch.  I am verifying that the SMG upshifts at redline if the driver does not.  I am told that that is the case.  If so, I only need to downshift for track days and the existing paddle system works.

I run group 4 in NASA and was invited to become an instructor this year.  Was also a regional class champ in SCCA Solo 1.  The 325 is heavily modified and the only work ever done to the tranny was to change the fluid - I have 145,000 miles on the car.  You have been more than kind to trade multiple e-mail with me, thanks.

 That's really great that you are invited to be an instructor... what better way to get track time, then to teach others!

 I'm not familar with the SMG system except from what I've read in Roundel, and various car magazines.  I know there are 6 different "S-levels" you can preset, but that mainly controls the delay between shifts.  I've heard that on level 6, you get Formula-1 style shifting that gives a "kick in the pants" when it shifts.  That is the ultimate in on-track shifting.

 As far as RPM @ Shift I'm not positive, but being the car that it is... I would assume it would shift at redline, maybe a few hundred RPM shy.  I think that engine revs to a scorching 8200 rpm, so there is some "over-rev" built in for safety.  
 Unfortunately I can only assume that it will shift at redline, but I'm not positive.
