I have an 1984 BMW 528 series but cannot figure out how to check or add transmission fluid to it. Any help would be appreciated.

You have neglected to specify the kind of transmission. I will assume automatic and tell you there is a dipstick that is probably still black and hidden in the engine compartment. I cannot tell you where it is though. When you find it drive the car a couple of minuted then with the car idling and the trans in park you can check the level against the hashed area on the dipstick.
