Question
Josh,
I realize that you noted you could answers questions  about 1984-1991, but I'm desperate.  I need to reset my code for my radio on my used 1998 BMW 328i due to electrical failure.  Can you help me?  It was taken to a mechanic to replace the ignition and now the radio doesnt work.  The display reads Code 1.  Thank you so much for any information you can give.

Answer
Dana,
I dont know the procedure for the E36, but it should be similar to all of the others.  You should write down your VIN number, and then call the local dealership and give him this number.  He "should" be able to look up the code and give it to you.  He might require you to bring the car in to have it reset, because some people steal these radios and call to get the codes for them.

 Good luck,
 Josh

Expertise

I can answer questions related to the BMW e30. These are the cars produced from 1984-1991 (1992 for convertable) in the United states. I am more fluent with the six cylinder models, although few things changed for the 4 cylinder cars. I know most of the problematic areas of these cars, and have found ways to fix them.

Experience

I have owned six different E30's over the last 10 years. I do all my own work, and know about ever nut and bolt on these cars.
