Question
i have a 1987 325i. i purchased this car 5 months ago and got it without a battery inside the hood. i had it jump started from the dealers. ever since, i didnt think i need to put one cus it starts w/o it. i dont kno how it starts w/o a battery, i thought maybe the battery is located elswhere. anyways. i tried to jumpstart a van and right when i tried to start to van, my 325i engine went off. after that my car wont start. as i turn the keys, i can hear the starter but it seems like the gas insnt going in.

Answer
Joe,
BMW is notorious for placing the batteries in unusual spots.

Some 325's had the batteries in the trunk (against passenger's side in trunk) and I'm sure that's what happened in your case.  Where did you hook the jumper cables when you jumped the van off?  Were they connected correctly?  If you connect the (+) to a (-) terminal it can burn things up.

Since I cannot see the car, I cant help very much, you are going to have to trace out the problem.

 Good luck,
 Josh

Expertise

I can answer questions related to the BMW e30. These are the cars produced from 1984-1991 (1992 for convertable) in the United states. I am more fluent with the six cylinder models, although few things changed for the 4 cylinder cars. I know most of the problematic areas of these cars, and have found ways to fix them.

Experience

I have owned six different E30's over the last 10 years. I do all my own work, and know about ever nut and bolt on these cars.
