Question
my a/c on my '97 Z3 has suddenly stopped producing cold air.  I can hear the compressor engage when the switch is turned on, but no cold air is blowing

Answer
Time to recharge the system... I believe you use R34... if thats not the case I would inspect the entire AC System, from the smallest thing (fuse box controlling the ac fan unit etc) to the actual compressor and dryer units themselfs. but usually if the compressor is spining (on the belt) but no cold air, it means its time to recharge the system with freon. A shop should take care of you for about 100 bux.

Hope that helps.
