About Josh Fields
Expertise
I can answer questions related to the BMW e30. These are the cars produced from 1984-1991 (1992 for convertable) in the United states. I am more fluent with the six cylinder models, although few things changed for the 4 cylinder cars. I know most of the problematic areas of these cars, and have found ways to fix them.

Experience
I have owned six different E30's over the last 10 years. I do all my own work, and know about ever nut and bolt on these cars.

Question
What about putting an engine from a 1983 533i into a 1984 328i?  Will it benefit you at all as far as HP?

Answer
Lance,
Good question, however some of the info you gave me was faulty.  In 1984 there was no 328i, only 318i, or 325e.  The 328i was later in production.  That being said I will assume you made a typo and meant "318i".
Yes you will see a benefit in HP and Torque.  I think that engine put out around 185HP, compaired to your current 100HP.  So yes, you will see a jump in horsepower, but I dont think it will be worth the headache.  That engine was VERY heavy, and what HP you gain will make the car very unbalanced when you go to steer it.

 Hope this helps,
 Josh
