Question
Hi Josh I have a 1987 325e everything was working fine then shut off.then started checking around and found that they're is power on the coil but no spark coming out.Josh any help...

Answer
Jowey,
First make sure that the coil is definately the problem and not the distributor cap/rotor button.  What I mean is, remove the coil wire from the distributor and lay it on the engine (dont hold it) and have someone turn the engine over and watch for spark.  If it sparks then your problem is the distributor cap or rotor button.  If it has no spark then its the coil wire or the coil.  If this is the case, borror a coil wire from another vehicle and plug it into your coil and test again for spark.  If there still isn't a spark then its definately the coil its self.
If you deem that the coil is the problem, borrow a coil from another vehicle if you can and test with it.  If you get spark from the borrowed coil... then you need to go out and buy another coil for your car!
 Good luck,
 Josh

Expertise

I can answer questions related to the BMW e30. These are the cars produced from 1984-1991 (1992 for convertable) in the United states. I am more fluent with the six cylinder models, although few things changed for the 4 cylinder cars. I know most of the problematic areas of these cars, and have found ways to fix them.

Experience

I have owned six different E30's over the last 10 years. I do all my own work, and know about ever nut and bolt on these cars.
