About Josh Fields
Expertise
I can answer questions related to the BMW e30. These are the cars produced from 1984-1991 (1992 for convertable) in the United states. I am more fluent with the six cylinder models, although few things changed for the 4 cylinder cars. I know most of the problematic areas of these cars, and have found ways to fix them.

Experience
I have owned six different E30's over the last 10 years. I do all my own work, and know about ever nut and bolt on these cars.

Ive also been having charge problems with my '92 325i, I first noticed that the odometer would flash dim & bright occasionally & then a week later, at lunchtime, a parked my car at the shop & tried to activate the alarm, it wouldn't so I used the key & made my way back to work, first the air-con wouldn't work, the windows wouldn't work & the sunroof opened itself. Then gearbox went into limp mode & engine then lost 95% power. I got a jump start, drove to work & loaded the battery & found at that point I was only getting 9 volts frm the alternator. But at that point I hadnt noticed how the odometer would go dull & bright.

The car is in the shop & ill find out what is wrong with it tomorrow.

Zeb,

You are not alone. My friend bought a 1986-ish bmw 5-series. She has gone through 3 alternators. Her mechanic cant figure it out, nor can I. something keeps eating her alternators. If I figure out the answer to the BMW-alternator-eating mystery, I will be sure to let you know.

Warmly,

Nick
