BMW/water under my back seat - '96 328ic

Question
Hi Josh,

Whenever it rains, I hear water sloshing around in the back of
the car. Recently, it got really bad so I took out the back seat
and found water an inch deep sitting in the pan under the seat.
It had even spilled onto the floor in the passenger compartment
and made it's way up to the floor in front of the driver's seat,
soaking the carpet. Where is this water coming from and why
isn't it draining out? Thanks in advance.

Answer
Roy,
Unfortunately I have no experience with the E36 Convertibles.  I would sit in the car and have someone wet the top with a hose to find the leak.  If the top isn't leaking, it could be the compartment that the top sits in when the top is down.  Check for debris in this compartment as it could clog the drain holes.
 I'm sorry I couldn't help further,
 Josh

Expertise

I can answer questions related to the BMW e30. These are the cars produced from 1984-1991 (1992 for convertable) in the United states. I am more fluent with the six cylinder models, although few things changed for the 4 cylinder cars. I know most of the problematic areas of these cars, and have found ways to fix them.

Experience

I have owned six different E30's over the last 10 years. I do all my own work, and know about ever nut and bolt on these cars.
