About Josh Fields
Expertise
I can answer questions relating to the BMW E30 3-series cars built from 1984-1991 (1992 for convertible) in the US. I know of the problematic areas in these cars and how to fix them. I know most parts of the car including: Electrical, Engine, Transmission, Differential, Suspension, etc...

Experience
I have owned 6 different E30's over the last 10+ years, and know almost every nut and bold on the cars.

BMW Repair - 1988 bmw 325is won't start

Expert: Josh Fields - 10/26/2006

Question
My 1988 325 starter will crank but the engine fails to start,Any ideas?

Answer
Don,
An engine requires 2 things to be able to start.  Fuel and something to ignite it.  You need to see if you have spark getting to your spark plugs.

Also you need to see if you are getting fuel into the engine.  You can remove the fuel hose and insert it into a soft drink bottle.  Have someone turn the engine over while you watch for fuel to squirt out of the fuel line.

 Good luck,
 Josh
