Question
Don, I saw all of the help you've given and have a few questions about a 1996 328i 5 Speed manual 4 door sedan I just acquired with under 98K. A few questions...

1) The BMW OEM alarm goes off randomly for no reason. A new battery was just installed so the power is good. Not sure where to start diagnosing that. Is there a sensor selectivity setting that is user accessible or is this something for a repair shop to figure out?

2) Front Passanger door lock doesn't open/close with the remote or with the key unless it is used in the door directly.

3) Odometer is hard read as it seems the light is burned out. Something I can fix myself or better left to the shop?

4) I also need to replace the windshield. Anything different/special about BMW OEM glass or can I get a replacement from Safelite?

Thanks if you can offer any suggestions.

John

Answer
I am unsure about the alarm,I haven't had any experience with them. The door sounds like the lock motor doesn't work .Remove the door panel and check the motor, wires in the door for chaffing. You can replace the bulb if you'd like ,it's an easy task just remove the cluster. You can get the bulbs from Bavarian Motorsports 1-800-535-2002.As far as the windshield goes it doesn't have to be BMW glass.Safelite I believe comes to you too, that's even better!
