BMW Repair/1997, 740IL - Fuel Smell in Cabin/Exterior

Question
We just had the $900 130K mile checkup in early June. The slight scent of fuel began about 3 months ago but has slowly gotten worse. The BWM dealership tech said that nothing was irregular at the checkup. Today the smell was really bad. We're gonna take it back in this week. Any advice?

Checking the carbon canister in the engine compartment as well as the vapor container in the trunk as the hoses do crack as well as the plastic too.I have been checking my files and I see that they did have problems with the fuel tank cap.Were there any check Engine lights on?
