steps to change the water pump?

In no particular order.....

Drain coolant

Remove hoses

Remove belt driving waterpump.

Remove thermostat.

Remove screws attaching waterpump.  You'll curse the one below the waterpump.  Make sure before you start that you can get to it, otherwise you also have to remove the lower pulley.
