On occasions when the trunk is opened the actuator motor continues to run on for a time before stopping when this occurs the motor stops in the incorrect position and the lid does not close until operated a number of times. Is this a sticking relay somewhere?

There's a relay behind the glovebox for the softclose hydraullic unit, but I think you're talking about the locking rather than the soft closing.

I would guess that the locking motor assembly itself is out of adjustment.  It's located behind the trim in the trunk lid.  

Remove the trim from the trunk lid and check for adjustment
