i have a 99 528i bmw.the check engine, eml,and the asc+t/dsc lights turned on.when this happens my car drives rough and dont speed up.when the lights are on i normally turn the car off and restart it.sometimes this works the first try but lately i have to try this several times.the light turns on when you first take offand only at that time.i took it to autozone so they can hook up the machine to check the check engine and it said something about the idle,but he didnt know much about bmw.please help me with your suggestion on where to start with problem and if its something i can handle or sould it be a professional.thankyou for your time and help.

You'll need to know more about it before you can decide if it's something you can do or not.

I recommend taking it to a dealer, or a good independent BMW mechanic.  

Once they diagnosis it, you can decide.  You'll have to pay for their time and costs to do diagnostics, but then you can decide.
