BMW Repair/transmission oil change

Question
I have a 1999 323i, and was told that the transmission fluid was life time. Is that true, if not how do I check the oil level?

Answer
Lifetime.  leave it alone.

Always a hot topic of discussion on message boards.  Those who change it (expensive!) usually find their transmissions fail within the next 10K miles.

You can check level, but really no place for it to go.

Enjoy the car, and don't worry about the transmissions.  Not a weak point on the 323
