BMW Repair/battery keeps going dead

The issue you speak of, battery drain, just occurred with my '95 525i.  I replaced the alternator *AND* the battery.  The car worked fine . . . for a few days.  I then reasoned something else was amiss and started pulling fuses, but the current draw was still occurring to the tune of ~2.6 amps.  Then I remembered my rear window defroster had stopped working a few weeks earlier.  When I took off the rear molding to expose the wire harness, I saw the problem: a short to ground.  After replacing the burnt wire, my current draw dropped from 2.6 amps to 0.6 amps immediately upon turning off the car (eventual full sleep mode current draw should be ~0.2 amps).  So far, so good.
