BMW Repair - transmition code on dash

Expert: John Kingery - 7/23/2009

Question
why , my BMW e-mail had a code come up reads safety start transmission. what does that mean?automatic wont move car . but manual mode does. what do i need to do now?

Answer
You need to get it to a dealer.  Something happened with the transmission, and it's in a safe mode which will let you drive it enough to get it fixed.

Might be bad....transmission shot, or ??  But likely something significantly more minor.  I had this once on my 740, and it was a dirty ABS sensor on the rear wheel.
