BMW Repair - MAF sensor

Expert: Don Berlan - 8/1/2009

Question
Want to clean the MAF sensor on a 2000 BMW 232CI M52 engine. Bought CRC Mass air flow sensor cleaner. Like to know if I can clean the whole sensor everywhere inside and out?

Answer
I would have to say yes.As long as it is not a carb cleaner.Crc brake clean does work well,by using carb cleaner it takes the finish of the wires.Use carb cleaner for the throttle plates. If there are any oil leaks take care of them first or you will be wasting your time as it will all happen again due to BMW's have a closed system not using the conventional pcv valve. And  oil leaks will cause oil to be drawn in as an unmeasured air leak
