Question
i recently purchased a 94 bmw 540i.The previous owner stated that the engine revved high and then started making a pinging noise.Now the car will crank but not start. What problems may i be experiencing? And what can i do to trouble shoot? thank you for your time

Answer
You first need to see if you have spark,then check see if you have fuel pressure.Checking the intake hoses to make sure they are not hard or cracked,and the seals,gaskets are not leaking oil.You also need to check the compression.By removing the spark plugs this can be done.(inspect the plugs for any damage)Diagnosing from there,having some of this basic information will help me help you.
