i cant find a Trans dip stick under the hood of my 99 323i. The Trans seems to take a bit of veving to get started and I can't find a way to check the fluid

Their isn't one. Its a bit complicated, you need the car running and you under it." types of gearbox, 1 with a filler plug and a drain plug, on that 1 you remove the filler plug with the engine running and fill it up with dextron3 oil just like a manual trans.
2nd one has 1 plug recessed into the sump(pan) again with it running take out the plug and top it up.

much easier and safer with a hoist to put the car up as it needs to be level too.
