Question
how do I get to the bolts to replace the starter on a 1986 528  BMW

Answer
This is probably the worst job I can think of doing. You need an inverted torx(like a socket but torx)The nut ends are 17mm but you probably won't get a wrench on it.It is a under car top of the car job so a lift is the best to use.You do alot of it by just reaching you won't be able to see any thing just kind of like feel.Once you break the nut loose on the top bolt, you need to hold on to it.If not no problem as when the starter is out you can retrieve it.The bottom bolt you can loosen up a little bit easier.
Not a fun job but once you do it the next time it goes a bit easier. Good luck!
