Question
Dear Don,

I'd like to know the exact type of differential fluid my 1997 318i has? Is my
differential an "open" or an "LSD" one? And the acceptable interval date for
replacing the said fluid.
Thanks a lot.

Sanny

Answer
To know what you have you need to look at the tag on the rear end.If it has an "L" in it it is limited slip. You can also tell by jacking the car up with both rear wheels of the ground and manually turn them.If they both move in the same direction it is a limited slip diff. The fluid should be replaced at 60 k intervals
