Question
We have a 330ix built in 2001. While driving it today (1 mile into a 5 mile drive) the engine oil light came on. We drove the car for 4 more miles to get home. I restarted the car 10 mins later and the engine oil light did not come on. Drove the car for 1.5 miles, not engine oil light. Checked the oil, which was maybe half a quart low at worst. Puzzled as to what it was and what the best course of action is.

By the oil light  I'm not sure which you are saying stays or has come on.Is it the level or the oil pressure light?If it is the level light you may need to change the oil as the sensor maybe sticking.If it is the pressure light you need to have the pressure checked to see what it is to make sure it is correct
