BMW Repair/break Line

Question
Hi, I would appreciate any help you could give me. I just bought a 1989 BMW 325si and the brake line light is on. What could it be and is it something I can do or does it need to go to a dealership. Thank you for your time and your help. Mark

Answer
The brake lining light comes on when the pads are worn. The sensor sets the light if the sensor either is grounded or open. They are located on the left front and right rear wheels. If the pads are ok then the problem is a broken  wire in that circuit. It does not need to go to the dealership if you know somebody that has some back ground in autos.
If pads are ok and the light bothers you you can also remove the bulb from the instrument cluster you'll just have to remember that later on when you put miles on it and the pads wear.
