Hi Rob,
I bought this car with 148K miles a few weeks ago.  It runs well except that there is a very abrupt and noticeable jerk when slowing down.  I am pretty sure it happens when the RPM is just below a 1000 and the transmission is shifting from 3rd to 2nd.  This jerk does not happen in other upshifts or downshifts.  I was told that changing the tranny fluid and filter should take care of it.  Is that likely to solve the problem or is there a better remedy?

Hi there,

Usually changing the fluid, and the filter, cures jerky automatics. You can check the condition of the oil by smell and sight. If it smells a bit burnt, then it is and will no longer be a clear fluid but a clouldy one.

While you are at it you might want to change the differential oil as well and check for any play in the universal joints on the driveshaft.

The torque for the gearbox plugs (both drain and refill) is 50nm and for 70nm (both drain and refill) for the differential (regardless of if it's a limited slip diff or standard).

The oil types are....

Autobox......Dexron 11    capacity 3.0L
Differential.......90W    capacity 1.7L
