I have on several B5 heard Londo Mollari
refer to a hot beverage called Jala..

What exactly is it? Is it something
equivalent to our Coffee?

officially no clue, but java is coffee, so jala is probably something close:)

JMS did like ironic coincidences, similar to the narns fav dish being exactly like swedish meatballs and every race having their own version of them.

so i would state i was under the same assumption you made, but theres no official proof of information or statements anywhere to suggest anything different.
