Badminton - Badminton court size

Expert: Külle Laidmäe - 10/11/2007

Question
Most web sites give footprint size for a court, but I have not found one which provides a height. I assume it has to be a bit higher that the 5ft net!

Answer
Hi,

There is no mention in the Laws of a minimum height for the ceiling above the court. Nonetheless, a badminton court will not be suitable if the ceiling is likely to be hit on a high serve.
www.sportengland.org/sportshalls.pdf provides this information: for recreational/club purpose a minimum height of 7.6m must be provided over the whole badminton court area. Regional/national/international level badminton requires a height of 9.1m.

All the best,

Külle
