Question Hi,
I am a Christian, but because of my beliefs I don't know what to do. Like, I dont believe in Hell, and that Christianity is the only right religion, and I believe everyone goes to heaven, regardless of their religion or what they've done. A while ago I saw a Bahá`í brochure, and now I am curious about it. Can you tell me about this faith, what it teaches that happens after death, why it is different..? Also, if I became Bahá`í, would I still be able to believe in God and Jesus? Would I still be able to wear a cross, or read the Bible? Can you help me, please?

Answer Victoria, your question reminds me of a statement of Abdu'l-Baha', one of the leaders of the Baha'i Faith. He was asked, "If I become a Baha'i, will I have to give up the religion of my saintly Christian mother?" Abdu'l-Baha' answered that, "If you become a Baha'i, you will not give up your Christian religion, you will apply it." The Baha'i Faith is one of the world's newest religions. It was founded in 1863 by Baha'u'llah, who Baha'is believe is the current Messenger of God, in a spiritual lineage with Jesus, Mohammed, Krishna, Buddha, etc. A Baha'i certainly believes in God and Jesus, yet they propose that God's message to humankind is unfolding. It embraces the teachings of the great religions of the world. God not only spoke through Jesus, but these others as well. Baha'is revere the Bible, but also books as the Koran, the Upanishads (Hinduism), and, of course, the writings of Baha'u'llah. The Baha'i Faith is based on basic principles that include the essential oneness of religion--that all religions are part of God's Plan--, the equality of men and women, the harmony of religion and science, the oneness of humankind (and the end of racism or clanism), universal education, a universal peace tribunal, and the abolition of extremes of wealth and poverty. There are many Baha'i websites online, just type "Baha'i" or "Baha'i Faith" into your Search engine. A good introductory book on the Faith is BAHA'U'LLAH AND THE NEW ERA by John Esslemont. You could get a copy through your local Baha'i assembly (check your phone book) or you could order one online. Joel
