About Barry Benjamin
Expertise
I am a hotel owner in the Out Islands for the last 30 years. I would like to help people understand what the Out Island experience is all about. I can answer questions about what hotels are like, what to do there, if they are moderate or expensive, who goes there generally, what the weather is like, what there is to do on individal islands, some contacts of people to talk to, a little history of some of the islands and my opinion on what are the most comfortable places to visit.

Question
Hi Barry,

We are a family of five (kids are 7, 9 & 11). We have our tickets to Nassau flying in on 4/18 - 4/25. We cannot find any place to stay in Nassau. I've read reviews of some hotels and they aren't good and the Atlantis is way overpriced and too crowded. I would love for my kids to visit there for a day and we all want to swim with the dolphins. If we stay some place in Eleuthera can we still do these things?  Do we take a boat or a plane from Nassau?  I have no idea what to do.  Thank you.

Answer
Robyn:
I am a bit confused with what you want to do but here are some places to get information

Eleuthera: http://www.bahamas.com/bahamas/accommodations/accby.aspx?island=212

Nassau: http://www.bahamas.com/bahamas/accommodations/accby.aspx?island=217

Copy the links one at a time into your browser and you can find out more information on the diversity of properties available in both places. Atlantis is not a must for anyone, although I have to say the aquarium is fantastic.
You can fly between Nassau and Eleuthera but there is also the Fast Ferry which takes about 3 hours but you get a great view of the islands as you travel around the north side of Eluethera. As for swimming with the dolphins, I believe you can do that on several of the islands. The people at the property you book should know if that activity is available near the property or not.
I hope this clears up some of your questions.
Barry
