Question My family booked and paid for a vacation to Paradise Island before Katrina. Now we don't have much money to spend. (I wanted to see Atlantis for my 18 graduation present.) Please give the names of some good places to eat for around $10-$20 each. Also, can you recommend any other "must see" things. Any good reasonable snorkeling tours to take? ANY tips or comments about the island would be so appreciated. Grateful in Biloxi, Mississippi!
Answer Tammy:
Snow knocked out the cable for a few days, sorry.
The first thing to do is to use the buses. Cheap and easy. Schedules avalable at any hotel. Between $1.00-2.00 per trip. Easy but some drivers like loud music. Can't have everything. Pay when you get off.
Snorkling; the best deal is Sea Island Adventures. It picks you up from your hotel, feeds a hearty lunch and has a good reef to visit, friendly fish. They have other things to do on Rose Island too. 242-325-3910 or www.seaisl.com. I have done it is is a good deal.
Food: Well there is a supermarket east (left leaving the PI bridge) of the Paradise Island Bridge. It is not far from the bridge, is in a shopping center with pink walls, call Super Value or City Market, I never really remembered which one it is, it is there though. Buy snacks and ready to eat things there to save money, especially if your room has a frig or mircowave.
Restaurants: The Shoal on Nassau Street has native food, is cheap and they will bus you there for dinner if you call them. Pick up a restaurant guid for the number. If you go to the Fish Fry at Arawak Cay, only go to Twin Brothers or Seafood Haven, the rest of the places are bad news. Lots of food at a fair price. Downtown the is Burger House hole in the wall type place, good and cheap. Also downtown is a Subway and Quinos Sub shop and McDonalds if you like that and the prices are very good. Imperial Take away is good and has native food. They have been there across from the British Colonial for decades, good cheap take away food or eat in. You will not get any good food deals on PI, nothing is cheap there. Cross the bridge.
If you want a nice dinner or lunch, a little higher priced, the Poop Deck east of the bridge is one of our favorites.
Cabbage beach on PI is the best beach. Visit the downtown area, it is nice. Go to visit the water tower for a great view of the island. Visit Fort Charlotte, and of course buy a day pass to Atlantis. It is a great day there.
