Question
hello!
I'm 18, and have always wanted to start dance. my dad's side were very into dance (my Nana and her parents ran their own dance school etc) but unfortunately i haven't been able to take it up as my mothers side are musical, and that has been what our family mainly does.
i have just taken up ballet and tap, although i can only afford one lesson a week. I'm fairly flexible, and have a good sense of rhythm. I'm also used to co-coordinating myself because i do trampolining. is it still possible to get up to a fairly good standard within the next few years if i can start going to more then one lesson a week with practice?
thankyou x

Answer
Hello!

Yes, it is definitely possible for you to improve greatly within a few years! If you take around 2 years 3-4 times a week, you should be able to build your strength and technique substantially, based, of course, upon your natural ability. Both myself and several others I have known have danced and a reletively high level being adult beginners taking at least 3 times per week.

Good luck dancing!

Expertise

I have knowledge of and access to information about ballet technique and style, professional companies, ballet history, general care of the body, questions about dance education and studios, and other general topics. I can especially offer advice to adult beginners. I will not answer any questions that would be better left to a medical professional.

Experience

I have not danced professionally, but I am a dedicated student of ballet and modern dance. I have taken classes in dance history, performed in amateur productions, attended professional performances, and read and watched many books and videos on the subject. I have also reviewed ballet performances for an online publication.
