Question
Hi, I'm 19 and I've just started learning ballet. I really want to be a ballet teacher professionally one day, but is this possible seeing as I started so late? Thanks.

Answer
Hi Liz. I have trained people who started around your age and who went on to teach ballet. If you can get the right ballet classes, there is no reason not to proceed with ballet and later ballet teaching. The quality of the basic training you get matters a great deal.

I don't know your locale, but I recommend that you tell the teacher training you about your feeling for teaching. Ask her/him to help you formulate a plan. You may want to get into a dance dept at a university, for classes and related training.

You might want to see what teachers' training programs are available at your nearest professional ballet school. There is always somewhere to start.

I guess the short answer is, no, it is not too late!

All the best, Dianne
