Ballet/I want to start NOW

Question
Hi Dianne,

I'm a 20 year old guy, and I want to start learning ballet now.

I know it's hard to say whether it's too old for me to start at this age, because it really depends on the particular situation of an individual, both physically and psychologically. But I need some help regarding where and how to find a good ballet teacher, as well as some basic guidance to start with. I live in NYC now, by the way.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Leo

Answer
Hi Leo. You have a lot of choices in NYC. Start calling all the studios nearest to you, or near where you work or study. Try to get into a studio with small adult beginner classes.

Visit studios and watch some classes.

By the way I have many articles on http://www.theballetstore.com some concerned with choosing a ballet teacher. I hope they help. There is a glossary also. Many entries are on the blog (and you can start your own blog too).

You are off to a grand adventure. I hope you'll let me know how this develops! All the best, Dianne.
