Question
Okay, so i have been taking ballet for a long time (8 years) and i am only 12, but since a while back, my bones have started to creak and pop. is this weird, or do most ballerinas have this problem?

Answer
Hi Anonymous. No, that is not a general problem.

I recommend that your parents take you to a chiropractor, specifically an activator chiropractor. The type of adjustment an activator doctor does is done with a small instrument that taps a bone into alignment with the exact force needed and no more. You hardly feel anything.

Activator chiropractors usually are trained in nutrition, which can also be a factor in your bones making noises. If it is because your ligaments are too lax, or long, sometimes a food supplement for ligaments is needed. You won't tighten up, but the ligaments get stronger, keeping your bones in better alignment.

I am only guessing from experience - but an activator chiropractor is a good doctor to consult. You can look at www.activator.com to find one near you. I hope you show this advice to your parents and let them consider it. I advise that they call a few if possible and ask them about their nutritional experience as well.

Even when a dance student has no problem, I recommend a visit to the chiropractor a few times a year just to make sure all bones and joints are in alignment.

All the best! Dianne
