Ballet/guest dancers dancing on opening night

Question
Hi! i just wanted to know... do international guest dancers or local guests dancers ever dance on the opening night of a new season?

Answer
Hi Renee. This happens. A classical ballet company may hire a guest ballerina or premiere danseur to open a season, as this is a big box office draw. Often the guest would be partnered with a local dancer, to keep up the "home profile".

This is a marketing issue, as well as a ballet director's issue - to try to keep everybody happy and feeling appreciated! And do what is best for the company.

There is always lots of talent and ego involved on all fronts!

All the best, Dianne.
