Question
I am a  beginner to ballet and would very much like to begin lessons. I am thirteen going on fourteen though, so is it too late to start?
Furthermore, my parents aren't totally sure about letting me start as they may be too expensive, so my grandmother would have to pay. ( she is happy to do so!) Can you think of any ways of persuading them that ballet is a good choice of lesson to start? I am of course very determined however, so would be dedicated to all lessons.
Thanks,
Amber.

Answer
It's definitely not too late to start!  You might be best off finding an adult beginning ballet class to start with.  Those are slightly slower and will teach you the basics without you having to be in a class of kids younger than you.
Ballet is a great thing to study.  It helps you out physically with coordination, strength, and flexibility.  You learn about your body; how far you can push it and what it is capable of doing.  Also, ballet teaches determination, perseverance, and dedication.  Even if you don't become a dancer, the skills ballet helps to develop will stick with you throughout your entire life.
Best of luck with your classes!

Expertise

I can answer lots about ballet, specifically the Vaganova syllabus. I'm still training, but both my parents were professional dancers, so most answers will be coming from them, not me. :) They're the experts. Obviously, questions about difficult technique, etc, would be better answered with someone else, but if you're just becoming interested in dancing, or are having problems with basic steps, like pirouettes or plies, then I may be able to help

Experience

I've seen ballet since the age of 0, because of my parents, and I am training to become a professional dancer now.
