AboutConnie Expertise I can answer lots about ballet, specifically the Vaganova syllabus. I'm still training, but both my parents were professional dancers, so most answers will be coming from them, not me. :) They're the experts. Obviously, questions about difficult technique, etc, would be better answered with someone else, but if you're just becoming interested in dancing, or are having problems with basic steps, like pirouettes or plies, then I may be able to help
Experience I've seen ballet since the age of 0, because of my parents, and I am training to become a professional dancer now.
Question Hello,
My name is Elizabeth and I am a singer/actress.. I have been dancing continually for only about three years but because of musicals I've been in, I've had a lot more dance experience. This past year, I've been trained in ballet, modern, jazz, and tap. My ballet teacher put me on pointe last year, but when I switched studios in the fall of 2007, my teacher determined that I wasn't ready for pointe yet. Anyway, there's an audition coming up for the 2009 national tour of phantom of the opera and the character meg must dance on pointe. i was wondering, if i danced vigorously every day, is there a possibility that i could get on pointe by maybe september?? what exercises would you suggest for me to increase my strength and move me on to pointe?
Thanks!
Answer It's not good to be on pointe before you're ready because injuries can occur. However, you can strengthen your feet to prepare for pointe work. Try doing 8 releves on each foot, 16 on both, or thirty ankle circles clock wise and counter clockwise. thera-band work is also helpful. If you take class every day and your strength and technique improves there is a chance for you to be on pointe by september. I would talk to your teacher about your goals as well. He or she may be able to offer more personalized insight.
Good luck with everything!
