Question
HI MY QUESTION:WHAT DO YOU CONSIDER TO BE EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE IN DANCE, WHAT DO YOU CONSIDER TO BE EFFECTIVE CHOREOGRAPHY IN DANCE? ANY IDEAS, BOOKS, ARTICLES. iM WRITING ESSAY ABOUT THIS AND i NEED SAME HELP.

Answer
Appreciation of art is subjective, as all views about art are.

I love the classics in ballet and also love Jiri Kyrlian's choreography, as well as a lot of other modern ballet and modern choreographers. You can rent anything these days so I would go to Netflix or Block Buster on line and rent some dance DVDs.

There are so many dance books to read - I read a lot about technique, like Deborah Vogel's and Lisa Howell's which can be found here:

I've enjoyed 2 of Gelsey Kirkland's books about her life in ballet. Suzanne Farrell's DVD about her life with George Balanchine shows a lot of his works. There is so much to look at and write about - but as I said, appreciation of art is subjective, and I don't get into academic thoughts about it at all.

All the best with your project, Dianne
